About

The Senior College Is...

The Senior College of Central Nebraska is a Life-Long Learning Program that provides a diverse curriculum of intellectually stimulating courses and special programs for energetic, inquisitive seasoned adults and others who enjoy active discussion, intellectual stimulation and the personal rewards of learning just for the fun of it.

The Members of the Senior College choose to focus time and energy in extending their knowledge through a broad range of subjects – literature, history, science, the arts, and more. With vibrant minds and unbounded curiosity, we discover, share, and build social connections with like-minded individuals in a rich learning culture.

The Senior College offers classes, field trips, educational travel, special events and lectures on a variety of topics taught by experts in their fields. Offerings range from such traditional college subjects as math, philosophy, creative writing, classical music, science, literature, and history to courses on senior law and healthcare as well as such eclectic subjects as family history, tai chi, line dancing and antiques.

Classes are taught in “semester” blocks - Fall, Spring and Summer. Fall and Spring classes normally meet for 2 hours once a week for 6 weeks while Summer classes meet for 4 weeks.

SC also offers a variety of short term special classes and events during the January-February “Winterim” as well as a Fall/Winter documentary film program (“The World Series”)

Senior College Members are from Amherst, Axtell, Bertrand, Central City, Cozad, Elm Creek, Elwood, Franklin, Funk, Gibbon, Grand Island, Henderson, Holdrege, Kearney, Miller, Minden, Naponee, Overton, Pleasanton, Ravenna, Riverdale, Shelton and Wilcox.
