Class & Event Cancellation Policies

Class Cancellations
Weather related: As a general rule, if Kearney Public Schools cancels classes, Senior College classes will also be cancelled. Should inclement weather force cancellation of classes, a cancellation notice will be posted on the Senior College Website Home Page and Senior College Facebook page no later than 9:00 a.m. You will not receive a call. An email regarding weather-related cancellations will be sent. Also, if Kearney Public Schools announces a “LATE START”, Senior College classes scheduled for that afternoon WILL MEET.
Non-weather related:  On rare occasions, Senior College is forced to cancel classes for non-weather related circumstances. Should this occur, Senior College will post a notice on the Senior College Website, and the Senior College Facebook page. Enrolled members will receive telephone or email notifications.  For this reason, it is extremely important for all participants to provide Senior College with up-to-date email addresses and telephone numbers and to check your email and messages on a regular basis.

Travel Cancellations
If the Senior College cancels a trip or special event:  On rare occasions, a Senior College sponsored trip or special event may be cancelled for reasons beyond Senior College’s control (weather, acts of God). Because of contractual obligations with vendors (ex. advance ticket purchases, transportation contracts, lodging deposits), full refunds cannot be guaranteed. Senior College will make a good faith effort to provide proportionate refunds when possible.
If you cancel your registration for a trip or special event for which you have prepaid: If your spot is filled from the wait list, your registration fees will be refunded. If your spot isn’t filled, and you cancel less than one month prior to the trip, your registration fee will be forfeited.

We strongly recommend that all travel participants purchase travel insurance from an insurance carrier of their own choice. If you must cancel your trip due to health or other problems, Senior College cannot refund payments unless the travel vendor agrees to refund what Senior College has already paid in advance.

Class Materials

Some Senior College classes may use specific books or materials. It is the individual participant’s responsibility to secure the recommended materials. When possible, Senior College will provide participants with information on how/where to secure the materials in advance of the first class meeting.

Code of Conduct

Senior College’s goal is to create environments that maximize the learning experience for all members. Many Senior College programs offer a forum for the lively and sometimes passionate exchange of views. To that end, the learning community follows principles of courtesy and mutual respect that promote reasoned discourse and intellectual honesty. Opposing viewpoints are honored and appreciated to preserve the dignity of others. Members who do not or cannot adhere to these principles may be removed from class and /or activities and denied the privilege of future participation.

Email Notifications

Senior College sends emails to members about course changes, course cancellations, upcoming events, and newsletters. Likewise, instructors or class facilitators may also need to contact students regarding class information. Make sure Senior College has your correct email address. Your information is always kept confidential.

Gift Certificates

Give the gift of learning! Senior College gift certificates make great presents for birthdays, holidays or other special events. Certificates can be in any amount. Please contact Senior College by email (registration@seniorcollegene.org) with details for the certificate.

Guest & Assistant Policy

Senior College members are welcome to bring a guest to a regular class one time during a semester. (This does not apply to one-time only classes.) If, for good and sufficient reasons, a member requires assistance to attend a class, a non-member/certified assistant may also be allowed to attend with prior permission from the Senior College Board.

Parking on the UNK Campus

If you participate in a class on the UNK Campus, you will be provided a Guest Parking tag at the first meeting of your class. The tag must be clearly displayed on your front-windshield mirror. If you receive a parking ticket, please bring it to the next class session and give it to the Senior College class ambassador or to the instructor. Parking tickets must be taken care of within 2 weeks of the time they are received.

Photography Policy

From time to time, Senior College representatives may take pictures or videos of classrooms and events for promotional purposes. If a member objects to the use of their photo/video in Senior College materials, the Senior College website or the Senior College Facebook page, please do so in writing to the Chair of the Board of Directors of Senior College, PO Box 1556, Kearney, NE 68848.

Registration Confirmation & Refund Policy

If you pay for your membership and/or classes online, you will receive an email response/confirmation. Likewise, prior to each class (or classes) you will receive a telephone call or message from the Membership Committee confirming your class registration(s). If a course is cancelled or full, you will receive notice as soon as possible and you will be given the following options:

  • Add your name to a wait list
  • Register for an alternate course
  • Request a refund (Refunds are not given after the first meeting of a class for which you are registered)
  • Donate to Senior College

It is extremely important for you to provide accurate contact information (email address and telephone number) on your registration materials to insure timely contact.

Class Registration Policy

Members can register for most classes and events by mail or online (www.seniorcollegene.org).

In 2017 Senior College began offering a special class kickoff event at which members are able to register for classes in person. It is the Senior College policy that the class registration process begins on the day of and at the time of this event.

Prior to the class kickoff event, members may mail their class registrations. These mail registrations will not be entered into the electronic registration system prior to the opening of the class kickoff event.

In-person and mail-in registrations will be treated equally and will be entered into the electronic registration process in the order they are received. For each in-person registration a mail-in registration will be inserted into the process. Our goal is to provide a system in which the in-person registrants and the mail-in registrants are equally treated. Following the class kickoff event, any registrations (online and mail-in) will be processed as they are received.
