Begin Women’s History Month with a presentation from Carol about Beatrice’s own Clara Bewick Colby. She will discuss Colby’s struggles through women’s suffrage as well as the influence of her newspaper, Woman’s Tribune. Colby established and published the Woman’s Tribune in Beatrice, Nebraska, and the suffragist newspaper would survive 26 years, greatly influencing rural, isolated women by resolutely promoting the idea that suffrage and equality for women were moral rights in a democratic society.
