Pioneer Life on Glass Road Trip

The Balcom-Green collection of black and white photographs makes a significant contribution to our understanding of the history and settlement of the central Great Plains by providing an intimate look into Nebraska’s past. The collection of some 1200 glass plate negatives of life in central Nebraska from the mid-1890’s to the 1920’s is housed at the Cairo Roots Museum, Cairo, Nebraska

This day trip will take us to Cairo to see some of the glass negatives as well as photos developed from the negatives. Bill Burdett, Horizons without Bounds and the Sandhills Journey National Scenic Byway, a rare blend of cowboy and scientist, will tell the story of how the negatives were found and are being preserved and displayed at the museum.

Lunch will be at Medina Street Vault with continued conversation with Bill. Participants will cover the expense of their own meals.

This trip is limited to 15 participants.
